We Win!

He is risen!

Believe it or not, it’s springtime! Don’t let the snow that has happened nearly every day in March fool you, it’s officially here.

One of the most exciting things about spring is Easter Sunday. We love Resurrection Day, because it’s the day, more than any other, symbolizing that Jesus is exactly who he said he was when he was on this earth. He died, was buried, and then he rose again! Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

That was made perfectly clear on that Sunday morning around 2,000 years ago when a few women in mourning went to a sealed tomb and found it completely empty. We are Christ-followers because of this momentous occasion. Anybody can make claims. Anyone can say that they are something special. The thing that they all have in common is that they are still in their graves. Jesus claimed to be the Son of God, and after he died, he walked among the people, alive, for over a month. Hundreds of people saw him after he had been buried, because he rose bodily from the grave.

In the Book of Revelation, John recounts his experience in seeing Jesus, saying,

“When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.’” - Revelation 1:17-18

Jesus defeated death, hell, and the grave, and because of that, so do we! Paul says this in 1 Corinthians 15:53-57,

"For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’ ‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?’ The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we, too, have defeated death and the grave. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we win!

Let’s celebrate!

Trevor Waybright

I was born and raised in Ripley, WV and graduated from Ripley High School in 1992. I then attended Crown College in Powell, TN where I met my wife, Joy, and we were married in 1997. After we graduated we moved to Beckley, WV where I was a youth pastor for 14 months. In early 2000, we moved to Pasco, WA and then down to Hermiston, OR where we started Victory Baptist Church in October of that year. God taught us much about grace and mercy and gave us three wonderful children (Jordan, Justin, and Alyssa) in the 14 years we were in Hermiston. In November of 2014, I accepted the position of Lead Teaching Elder here at Foundry and we relocated to Bend that same month.
