Resurrection Day!

What a great time of year!

Springtime brings flowers, warmer weather, new life, and a fresh feel to the air. It is interesting that God chose this time of year to bring about the greatest event in all of history. It was 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem when God’s Son was tried in a makeshift illegal trial, found guilty of blasphemy, and sentenced to die on a cross. It all seemed so wrong and unfair. How could the Messiah go out like this? It seemed like it was all out of control, and the powers that should be defeated were actually winning.

It seemed like God had failed and that his plan had been thwarted. But it was actually all a part of the unfolding drama that we call redemption. Jesus, God’s Son and the second person of the Trinity, was hanging on a cross. And this was God’s plan? Peter, when he was preaching to the people gathered in Jerusalem for Pentecost, said it this way,

“This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.”

Even though they meant it for evil, God meant it for the ultimate good! The very next verse says this,

“But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”

This crime of all crimes where the innocent God-man was put to death by His rebellious creation was actually God’s plan to redeem the rebellious creation and reconcile us to Himself! Jesus died, taking on Himself our sins so that we could be counted righteous through Him! Paul says it like this,

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. Because of that, we are called the sons of daughters of God. God’s perfect plan worked perfectly!

So now what? We celebrate! This Easter Sunday, April 17th, we’re throwing a party. Let’s celebrate our life in Christ because of His Resurrection and because he defeated death, hell, and the grave! Our worship service is going to be one big gospel-centered celebration, and then we’ll have a party in our parking lot afterwards. Join us for food trucks, games, a Jesus-centered Easter egg hunt, and more. Bring your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to help us celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord Jesus!

Trevor Waybright

I was born and raised in Ripley, WV and graduated from Ripley High School in 1992. I then attended Crown College in Powell, TN where I met my wife, Joy, and we were married in 1997. After we graduated we moved to Beckley, WV where I was a youth pastor for 14 months. In early 2000, we moved to Pasco, WA and then down to Hermiston, OR where we started Victory Baptist Church in October of that year. God taught us much about grace and mercy and gave us three wonderful children (Jordan, Justin, and Alyssa) in the 14 years we were in Hermiston. In November of 2014, I accepted the position of Lead Teaching Elder here at Foundry and we relocated to Bend that same month.
